My Favourite Boobie Baskets

This one is pretty self-explanatory, bra’s I love & why I love them

(And a fair bit of love for Brastop.com too!)

First up, let’s take a look at the wonderful Curvy Kate.  The brand itself caters for women from a D-K cup and back sizes run from 28-44.  First up is the Portia Bra.

I needed a few soft cup bra’s so decided to take the plunge with CK (d’ya see what I did there…. yes, I know it wasn’t all that funny. Sigh), I’ve always been a fan of their styles but was reluctant to get out of my moulded/padded bra ‘comfort zone’.  I will admit, I do tend to struggle a little with Curvy Kate bra’s as I have close set bazooka’s and find the gore is a little wide with their padded/moulded bra’s…. but this is not the case with their soft cups.  Personally, for me the gore is always super tight when I first get them on and tend to pop a little bit of cotton wool in just to avoid a red mark.  The band is a snug 28, no complaints there and the cup is a good plunge shape, not too low and it doesn’t swamp the ladies.

You should be able to see from the above picture this bra gives a lovely smooth round shape, although the ribbon can feel a little tighter than the cup itself but it’s easily removed if you are having problems with it.  I love this colourway as well, the lime & blue is gorge!  I managed to bag a bargain via www.brastop.com and picked this up for a mere £9.95 and it is also available in purple/pink (only £8.95) & teal/lemon colourways in limited sizes.

Sticking with the same brand, lets go to the Curvy Kate Tease Me.  I was lucky enough to bag this set via a Twitter competition a while ago.  Now, I love this bra, however for me, as mentioned above, it’s not the comfiest due to the wide cups.  I find the underwire comes too far round and sits under my armpit and the gore is too wide again for me.  HOWEVER, I still love this bra.  It gives an amazing shape (for full-on, in-yer-face boobs), great uplift and just look how pretty it is!!

Available in a wide range of colours and (as ever) sizes, and currently on brastop priced between £8.95 & £18.95 depending on your colourway choice.

Number 3 is………..Jessica by Freya

So I picked this little beauty up and was dubious at first.  I didn’t like how the material felt and wasn’t too sure whether the trim would be itchy or show up under clothes.  I immediately changed my mind once it was on.  Although the size was wrong for me (thanks to my chest deciding to have another growth spurt just after I ordered it, typical!) I cannot fault this bra.  It doesn’t give great cleavage, but it does hold everything in place and gives a decent amount of uplift.  The seam across the middle is flush so you don’t feel it and you can’t see it under clothes, and despite it being fairly sheer, nipples aren’t exposed, always a win in my opinion!  Just bloomin’ lovely.

Ready for number 4??  Jolie by Freya

I ordered this along with my Jessica so by the time it arrived it was a little snug on me.  But I still wanted to give it a try and see how the bra was.

You can see here that’s its a little snug, but by jove it’s a pretty little thing isn’t it (Yes, I did just say ‘by jove, don’t question me!)?!
I was pleasantly surprised at how suportive & uplifting it was for a soft cup bra.  It’s feminine, comfortable and girly, the seams give a great shape and the straps are wide enough to feel comfortable but not industrial.  I’m biding my time until I can realistically get myself a new one of these…. damn needing practical things like food and bus fares. 😉

Freya Jolie in Amethyst is currently £9.95 on brastop in limited sizes and £16.95 for the Chilli colourway

Next up is a bra that I’d imagine all of you are aware of and if you’re anything like me have had a few of these.  It is the almight Freya Deco!  I’m lucky enough to be part of a network of wonderful underwear reviewers & enthusiasts who, for a long time, were pushing me to get this bra.  At the time I was a little strapped for cash so had to wait until I could bag a bargain somewhere.  Finally, that moment came.  After trawling eBay, to my delight, I finally found a Charcoal Deco in 28DD (I was a little smaller back then) at a discounted rate (RRP is around the £30GBP mark) so I snapped it up.

It arrived and I skipped into the work loo’s to sneakily try it on.  It was possibly the best day of my life, as far as new underwear goes.

The band was perfect, I love the colour, the double button detail is adorable, the straps are fully adjustable and look at the shape & cleavage….. there’s nothing else to say about it.  It is my favourite bra ever.  And the support is the same across the sizes.  Below is my newer 28F Deco in Black.  Fully adjustable straps, true-to-size band, beautiful moulded shape and they also make a strapless version, which imo, is one of the most supportive strapless bra’s availabe for the larger bust.

As well as the Deco, Freya also make the Ashlee, Taylor & Frida bra’s, all based on the staple Deco shape.  Massive range of colourways & prints available from leading retailers. (Very limited styles/colours & sizes on brastop though I’m afraid.)

I’ll be updating this section once I’ve taken some better photo’s of my other favourite bra’s.

Oh Lizzie, how I adore you!!

Fuller Figure Fuller Bust

My name is Lizzie and I’m a wedding photographer, as well as a few other things that make me smile and that I just love to do, I cook, craft, sew, laugh with my friends and have somewhere managed to be brave and pose in my undercrackers in front of the nation.

I’ve crossed swamps, slayed dragons and killed demons to get to where I am today and I’m expecting a few more challenges along the way. I’m here to tell you how being brave, in all aspects of life, can be the most rewarding thing you ever do…

People tell me that I’m brave, that they admire me for the decisions I have made and for the things that I have done. Yet for the last few years I haven’t really seen it that way. I don’t know what switched but my life changed and I began to realise…

Good Bra, Bad Bra Time to play the fitting game….

This may seem off topic but trust me and read on!
You walk into a shoe shop, ask for your little old tootsies to be measured and the assistant rolls out the odd looking measuring contraption.  You slide your foot in and the assistant takes note of your size, for the purpose of this exercise lets say a 5.
You’re looking for a new pair of trainers, something supportive for when you’re at the gym maybe (or in my case, a new pair of trainers to sit in the hall gathering dust whilst you think about going to the gym or for a jog).  So you’ve told the salesperson what you want, all they need to do is bring you a few shoes to look at and try on.  Now imagine that, upon the sales persons return, you spy the perfect pair in their chubby little hands and just need to try them on to check comfort.  You put your feet in and low & behold…….. you’ve got an extra 2 inches by your toes?!  You’ve been measured at one size but given something different to try on.  Clearly, these will be no good – they’re loose around your ankle, you can’t fasten them tight enough and you could probably squeeze a spare pair of socks in at the toe end.  You would, of course, demand the assistant disappears and returns with the correct size.

Now, let’s change the scenario:

You’ve plucked up the courage to go & get fitted…. You nip into the changing room, whip your bra off (if you’re anything like me you leave your tee shirt on and just wrangle your ill-fitting bra out of a sleeve) and wait for the tape measure. In comes the lovely lady who promptly measures you as follows:

28 Underbust
35 Around bust

She’ll probably then ask you what style you’d like, colour etc then disappear for a few minutes and return with a handful of bra’s that fit your description.  Unfortunately, this is all they will fit….. You try on one of the bra’s, a 32C or D maybe and all seems fine.  But, didn’t the tape measure state that you had a 28 inch back?  Why, exactly, have you now been put into a 32 inch bra?

The reason is the +four rule.  It’s old, it’s outdated and it’s just ridiculous.  Yet so many women are still being told it’s the correct way of fitting.  How many of you tighten your bra straps so much that you have shoulder dents or marks by the end of the day, or the back of your bra is level with with your armpit?  I’m guessing at least 20% of you.  Guess what – a bra’s support comes from the band, NOT the straps.  So unsurprisingly, being in a bra that’s 4 inches larger than you are is going to do diddly squat for support or how your lady lumps look.  As a rough guide, take your back measurement then for every inch difference between that and the larger measurement, add a cup size.  Using the 28/35 measurements you’d go to approx. a 28F. (NB: try out Sophisticated Pairs Bra calculator for a good estimate, I reblogged it a couple of days ago, or google it)  Hell of a difference.  Of course this is just a rough mark to start with, you need to get into a changing room with a few different cup sizes to find your perfect fit, but please, make sure you’ve got the correct back size!!

When you first try it on you’ll instantly feel how much tighter it is, this can take a bit of getting used to after wearing such loose bra’s but just go with it. As long as its not cutting in it’s fine. You will probably also find that different brands fit you differently. You may need to up or downsize depending on this but you soon learn which size you need from which manufacturer. Just the same as clothes shopping really. As for bra style, some will work better than others for you. There’s a few brands I don’t get on with as I have close set waps, so anything with a large gore or high underwire is out for me…… Trial and error is the only way!

Now, go out to Bravissimo or Leia (try and avoid high street department stores) and get fitted. I guarantee your shoulders, back & boobs will thank you for it. Let me know how you get on!

Fraulein Annie – vintage romance & glamour

Fraulein Annie is the brainchild of the wonderful Frauke Nagel.  Her style is vintage, romantic, stylish yet practical.  I was lucky enough to win a set of my choice from her collection – http://www.frauleinannie.com/Collection.html

Immediately I was drawn to the Falling in Love range in the Blush colourway and I opted for the short over the shaping briefs.  As much as I love the shaping brief, I wanted something a little more practical for day-to-day wear.

I chatted with Frauke via email regarding fitting advice, I sent her all my vital stats & said I take a 28″ back.  Fraulien Annie start at a 32 back so I was a little worried.  Frauke assured me that the band comes up small and she uses the ‘traditional’ fitting method of having extra inches on the bra.  Initially I was worried the bra would be an odd fit, but after working out sizing etc, Frauke kindly agreed to send me both a 32E & 32F to ensure I got the best fit I could.

A few days later my package arrived, it was beautifully wrapped with the 2 bra’s as promised, the shorts, a pocket sized catalogue & a cute little notebook with the Fraulein Annie branding on it.  Sometimes it’s the little touches that really make a company stand out!

I tried the smaller of the bra’s on first and fell head over heels, despite having to use the tightest bra hook which was comfortable, but I’m so used to having a tight 28″ band that it took me a little while to adjust to the feel of this bra.  The unpadded balconette style cups, trimmed with delicate contrasting eyelash lace (see close-up below) & silky soft material instantly make you feel sexy as hell!!  There are small bows on the straps just above the cup and it’s stiched in such a way that you get a fabulous smooth look under clothing.

Eyelash Lace = ❤

For my particular shape, this bra didn’t give OTT uplift or cleavage, as you can see from the top photo, but it is incredibly comfortable and it just screams romance!  If you’re looking for lingerie that makes you feel like a true vintage hollywood glamour-puss, this is it.  Available from www.figleaves.com, there is also the choice of a thong, high waist shaping briefs & beautiful suspender belt, as well as more of the current collection.  Also, keep your eyes peeled for the swimwear collection, you will not be disappointed!
